BAMAKO, MALI — A wave of pro-democracy protests has swept across Mali, marking the most significant public opposition to military rule since the 2020 coup. Thousands have taken to the streets of Bamako and other cities, demanding an end to authoritarian governance and the restoration of democratic institutions.

The demonstrations were sparked by the military junta's recent moves to consolidate power, including the dissolution of all political parties and the suspension of political activities. These actions have been widely condemned by international human rights organizations, which view them as a blatant attempt to suppress dissent and extend military rule indefinitely.

Despite a heavy security presence and reports of arrests, protesters remain undeterred. Civil society groups, opposition coalitions, and ordinary citizens are uniting in their call for democratic reforms and the reinstatement of civilian governance.
